French John’s Station

Located 14 miles east southeast of Reed’s Station, in the vicinity of the mouth of Cow Springs Creek Canyon.

Mud Spring

A later station operating in 1860, 14 miles east fron French John’s and 13 miles nort from Clayton’s Station (formerly Widow Smith’s Station.

Widow Smith’s Station (Clayton’s Station, Major Gordon’s Station)

Located 24 miles from French John’s Station, in upper San Francixquito Canyon near Green Valley.

King’s Station

Located 10 miles south of Widow Smith’s Station in lower San Francisquito Canyon.

Hart’s Station or Lyon’s Station

Located 12 miles south of King’s Station in Santa Clarita.

Lopez Station

Located 8 ½ miles southeast of Hart’s Station, in the San Fernando Valley north of Mission San Fernando Rey de Espana.

Cahuenga Station

Located 12 miles southeast of Mission San Fernando, in Cahuenga Pass, of the Santa Monica Mountains.  The first station of the 1st Division, it was located 12 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

2nd Division Stations

Los Angeles

Located 12 miles southeastof Cahuenga station in the pueblo of Los Angeles.  The 2nd Division was in a brick building, consisting of an office, blacksmith shop, stables and sheds.

Monte

Located 13 miles east of Los Angeles.

Rancho San Jose

Located 12 miles east of Monte in present-day Pomona.

Rancho Santa Ana del Chino

Located 12 miles southeast of Rancho San Jose.

Temescal Station

Located 20 miles southeast of Rancho Santa Ana del Chino.

Laguna Grande Station

Located 10 miles southeast of Temescal Station, near present day Lake Elsinore.

Alamos or Willow Springs Station

Located 21 miles southeast of Laguna Grande Station.

Tejungo Station

Located 14 miles east of Temecula Station, near Aguanga.

Oak Grove Stage Station

Located 12 miles southeast of Tejungo Station.

Warner’s Ranch

Located 10 miles southeast of Oak Grove Station.

San Felipe Station

Located 10 miles southeast of Warner’s Ranch, northwest of nearby Scissors Crossing.

Vallecito Station

Located 18 miles southeast of San Gelipe Station.

Palm Spring Station

Located 9 miles southeast of Vallecito Station at Palm Spring.

Carrizo Creek Station

Located 9 miles east southeast of Palm Spring Station.

Sackett’s Wells

A later station, located 17 1.2 miles east southeast of Carrizo Creek station, 15 miles west northwest of Indian Wells.

Indian Wells Station

Located 32 miles southeast of Carisso Creek, near present day Heber, no water except at station.

New River Station

A later station, located 15 miles southeast of Indian Wells Station, in Baja. California, 14 miles west of Alamo Mocho Station, in present day Mexicali.

Alamo Mocho Station

Located south of the Mexican border in Baja, California, 38 miles east of Indian Wells Station, no water except at station.

Gardner’s Wells Station

Located south of the Mexican border in Baja California, 9 miles east of Alamo Mocho and 9 miles west of Seven Wells.

Salt or Seven Wells

A later well, located south of the Mexican border in Baja California, 18 miles east of Alamo Mucho.

Cooke’s Wells Station

Located south of the Mexican border in Baja California, 22 miles east of Alamo Mucho Station, no water except at station.

Pilot Knob Station

Located 18 miles east of Cooke’s Wells.

For Yuma Station

Located 10 miles east of Pilot Knob Station

3rd Division Stations

Swiveler’s Station

Located 20 miles east of Fort Yuma.  Susequently, the post office for nearby Gila City 1.5 miles west of the station.

Mission Camp

A later station located 11.49 miles east of Gila City.

Filibuster’s Camp

Located 18 miles from Swiveler’s Station.

Antelope Peak Station

A later station located 15.14 miles east of Mission Camp, at the foot of Antelope Peak.  It replaced Filibuster’s Camp Station, 6 miles to the west.

Peterman’s Station

Located 19 miles from Filibuster Camp, 12.8 miles from Antelope Hill.  Later called Mohawk Station.

Texas Hill Station

A later station located 10.98 miles east of Mohawk Station, replaced Griswell’s Station.

Griswell’s Station

Located 12 miles from Peterman’s Station, later abandoned.

Flap-Jack Ranch

Located 15 miles from Griswell’s Station, later called Grinnel’s Ranch or Station, located 27.11 miles from Mohawk Station, 16.3 miles from Texas Hill Station, sometimes called Stanwix Ranch and Stanwix Station.

Burke’s Station

A later station 9.43 miles from Grinnel’s Ranch midway to Oatman Flat Station.

Oatman Flat Station

Located 20 miles from Flap-Jack Ranch.

Murderer’s Grave Station

Located 20 miles from Oatmans Flat Station, later Kinyon’s Station.

Gila Ranch

Located 17 miles from Murderer’s Grave Station.

South Tank or Pima Pass Tank

Later water tank, located 10 miles from Gila Ranch.

Desert Station

Later station located 21.82 miles from Gila Ranch, 11.82 miles from Pima Pass Tank.

North Tank or Montezuma Head Tank

Later water tank, located 8.57 miles from Desert Station.

Maricopa Wells Station

Located 40 miles from Gila Ranch, and 18.56 miles from Desert Station, 10 miles from Montezuma Head Tank.

Casa Blanca Station

Station established in the latter part of 1858, located 11.35 miles from Maricopa Wells.

Socatoon Station

Located 22 miles from Maricopa Wells and 11 miles from Casa Blanca Station.

Oneida Station

Later station, located 13 miles from Socatoon Station.

Blue Water Station

Later station, located 11 miles from Oneida Station.

Pechacho or Picacho Station

Located 37 miles from Sacatoon Station, 14 miles from Blue Water.

Pointer Mountain Station

Located 22 miles from Picacho Station.

Tucson Station

Located 18 miles from Pointer Mountain.  Headquarters of the 3rd Division.

4th Division Stations

Seneca Spring Station

Located 35 miles form Tucson, no water on the route except at station. Later known as Cienega Spring Station.

San Pedro Station

Located in Arizona, 24 miles from Seneca Springs, no water on the route except at the station.

Dragoon Springs Station

Located 23 miles from San Pedro Station, no water except at station.

Ewell Station

Alater station located 23 miles east of Dragoon Springs and 15 miles west of Apache Pass.

Apache Pass Station

Located 49 miles from Dragoon Springs, no water except at station.

San Simon Station

Later station located in 19 miles east of Apache Pass Station.

Stein’s Peak Station

Located in Doubtful Canyon, New Mexico, between Steins Peak and Soldiers Farewell stations.

Soldier’s Farewell Station

Located in New Mexico, 42 miles from Stein’s Peak Station, no water except at station.

Ojo de Vaca Station

Located 16 miles from Soldier’s Farewell Station.

Miembre’s River Station

Located 16 miles from Ojo de Vaca,  ater Mowre City, New Mexico.

Cooke’s Spring Station

Located 18 miles from the Miembre’s River Station, just west of the site of the later Fort Cummings.

Goodsight Station

Later station, located 14 miles east of the Cooke’s Spring Station.

Rough and Ready Station

Later station, 22 miles east of Goodsight Station.

Picacho Station

Located in the village of Picacho, 15 miles east of the Rough and Ready Station and 52 miles from Cooke’s Springs.  This station had the last natural water available on the route until Cooke’s Springs, although the later intervening stations had hauled water and constructed earthen tanks to catch rainwater.

Mesilla

Located 6 miles, east of Picacho Station.  Mesilla was almost exactly midway between St. Louis, Missouri and San Francisco, California and was the most important Overland Stage Statin between the two points.  At this time, Mesilla was on the west bank of the Rio Grande and was the point where the route crossed the river.

Fort Fillmore Station

Located on the east bank of the Rio Grande, 14 miles from Picacho Station.

Cottonwoods Station

Located 25 miles south of Fort Filmore along the east bank of the Rio Grande, just over the border in what is now Vinton, Texas, 22 miles from Cottonwoods Station.  Headquarters of the 4th Division.

5th Division Stations

These 5th Division Stations in New Mexico Territory were located on Captain Pope’s New Road to Franklin.

Franklin Station

Located in Franklin, Texas, 22 miles from Cottonwoods Station.

Hueco Tank Station

Located 30 miles from Franklin.

Ojos de Alamos Station

A later station in New Mexico Territory, located 20 miles northeast of Hueco Tanks Station in Texas.

Cornudas de Los Alamos Station

An original station in New Mexico Territory,  located 36 miles east of Hueco Tans, 16 miles east of Ojos de los Alamos Station.  Located 28 miles northwest of Crow Springs Station in Texas, a later relay station midway between Cornudas and Pinery Station.

Crow Springs Station

A relay station east of Cornudas Station midway to Pinery Station, only used in 1858, provided water to Cornudas de Los Alamos and Ojos de los Alamos Stations.

Pinery Station

Located 56 miles from Cornudas, just east of Guadelupe Pass, no water on the route except at station.

Independence Spring

Spring located 5 miles from Pinery Station.

Delaware Springs Station

Located 24 miles from Pinery Station.

Pope’s Crossing of the Pecos River

Located 36 miles from Delaware Springs, 2 miles form Pope’s Camp Station.

Horse Head Crossing Station
